Topic-Specific Group Tours
Lumel Studios and YuKonstruct Group Tour - Enjoy an innovative and explorative morning discovering the inner workings of Lumel Studios and YuKonstruct while getting to know the disruptors (AKA masterminds) behind it all.
Lumel Studios is a glass blowing facility that offers a wide range of workshops (including walk-ins and team building events), daily demonstrations of glass blowing and a gallery filled with Northern inspired creations. Lumel is also a studio with a social conscience, we regularly provide workshops and demonstrations for our street people, disenfranchised youth and our elderly – we have been labelled the ‘Happiness Factory’ – long may that be so…
Yukonstruct Society is empowering Yukoners to bring their ideas to life in a creative, innovative community by providing access to collaborative SPACE, RESOURCES and SUPPORT. YuKonstruct is the rallying point for the Yukon’s maker and entrepreneurial community.
Summer 2018 - we are launching the first Innovation Centre north of 60. A 24,000 sqft state of the art, multi-tenant facility with on-site resources consolidating all our spaces and services under the same roof, located in downtown Whitehorse (2180, 2nd Avenue).
In the Hub:
(make)space: We are the Yukon makerspace. A community workshop incorporating elements of machine shops, workshops, and studios where the maker community come together to share resources and knowledge to build and make things happen.
(co)space: We are the Yukon coworking space. A shared workspace for the Yukon’s entrepreneurial community to work, collaborate and build a strong community of visionaries.
(Launch)space: We are the Yukon incubator. A collective initiative to foster business development and innovation in the North, including conferences and programs that helps early-stage entrepreneurs and start-ups in Yukon take their ideas to the next level.
Carcross/Tagish Learning Centre Group Tour - Experience a scenic one hour ride to the picturesque community of Carcross to visit the state-of-the-art Carcross/Tagish Learning Centre and stroll through the culturally vibrant Carcross Commons.
It’s easy to feel the draw to Carcross. A compelling First Nation culture invites you to experience their heritage. Stand in the presence of totem poles, and then tuck inside a carving shed to watch and learn the significance of the artwork’s shapes and colours. Get a coffee and snack at Carcross Commons and wander down to Bennett Lake’s sandy beaches. This glacial lake was once busy with gold seekers struggling their way to the Klondike.
The Carcross/Tagish Learning Centre opened in June 2016, and showcases the art, culture and history of the community and the Carcross/Tagish First Nation people. It exists to help users learn and understand the culture of the Inland Tlingit and Tagish peoples way of life. This multi-purpose facility also serves as a central gathering place for the Community, where intercultural and educational sharing, preservation and enlightenment nurtures the being and place of the people it serves. Whether you’re seeking scenery, adventure, or solitude, you’re sure to find it here. Montana Mountain has inspired our people for generations – now we hope that it inspires you.
