Chief Kristina Kane

Chief - Ta’an Kwäch’än Council

Chief Kristina Kane was born and raised in Whitehorse and comes from the Chief Jim Boss Family of the Ta’an Kwäch’än Council. She is now serving in her third term as Chief after being re-elected on October 15, 2018. She was first elected in 2012, after serving as Councilor for her First Nation for three years.

In 1902, Chief Kane’s great-grandfather, Chief Jim Boss wrote to England and the Commonwealth to articulate the need for First Nations government to be respected. His message was clear: protect the rights of citizens and the power of the Ta’an Kwäch’än self-government. Chief Kane strives to honour her ancestors and the important work that they did, as well as working towards a bright future for Ta’an Kwäch’än citizens and the whole of the Yukon through effective collaboration.

Chief Kane received an Associate of Arts Degree from the Institute of Indigenous Government and moved on to the University of British Columbia where she studied Anthropology and Political Science.  She believes in the importance of bridging the traditions of the past while ensuring a successful future for the Ta'an Kwäch’än.
